The Peoples Republic of California.

While California is one of the most beautiful states in the Union it has some of the worst laws for trucks. For those who thought that the law to possibly ban black cars was crazy how about telling a group that they are not allowed to sleep comfortably at night? California has decided that even running an Auxiliary Power Unit to power the air conditioner or heater at night is now worthy of a ticket. So now they want to put truck drivers on the road who may not have gotten a good nights sleep. Please someone explain to me the how this is safer than either idling the truck or using an APU to sleep comfortable.
Well tomorrow I get the pleasure of dealing with that and other wonderful laws that they have in California.

Trucking and AIG

Just think about it, one or more of the major trucking companies goes bankrupt (remember TRISM?) and the government steps in and takes it over. Then instead of running for what you were making the government now sets your pay at a much lower rate. As they are doing this everyday you hear on the TV and read in the papers how terrible you are for even working for this company. Well that is what is happening to the investment community today. You know the industry that provides the money for just about everything that we do from buying a car to financing our business.
Were there some bad players in the whole AIG scandal? sure there were. But not everyone who worked the company was a bad character, unless of course you read the news.
This whole idea of the government being able to just take over a company because they deem it a danger to the economy should frighten everyone. Then to be able to decide that they can decide which contracts should be honored and which to renegotiate is beyond scary.
This whole thing has been like a bad majic trick while our attention was directed at AIG the ground work was set for the biggest expansion of government power in my lifetime. For trucking as an industry, just imagine somebody thinks that speed governors are a good idea and boom they become mandatory on every truck along with what ever they can think up in Wonderland on the Potomac.

Opening comment

This site is set up for the trucking community to voice their opinions about Glenn Beck's 912 Project and the Tea Party movements. Let's keep it civil and the language clean. This maybe viewed by those outside the trucking community so put you best foot forward.
